Taxes? Justice? Voting…

Yes, the police. Mayor Marty Walsh made a move submitting a revised budget for the next fiscal year in Boston. He said he wanted Massachusetts to to be a role model for many states who are excessively spending their money in the police system. Why hadn’t this been questioned before? I had no idea it was that exorbitant.

But wait! Even with some good ideas, can come better ideas. It is good we currently have in place a functioning Democracy where people can share their ideas and opinions about what could be different and better. Boston City Councilor At-Large Michelle Wu has explained why this budget is a good idea however we should make it more effective should reflect the change that is needed. I hope some compromise and an agreement can be made so we may move forward.

The public health crisis our society is experiencing right now is important to talk about and share what’s known. Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts shared a Google Doc of Anti-Racism Sources for White People. I’m currently only halfway through reading the articles and I recommended looking them over. It’s thought-provoking, instructive, moving, and painful. This has been happening for too long. Racism isn’t becoming worse, it’s becoming filmed. Large scale response is influential.

What are the resources you can call in your community instead of the police? Are you in danger? How do you play a role in the circumstances? Can you ask someone else what they think? Are you friendly with one or a few neighbors? I know race doesn’t always play a role here however it’s important to think of the options available. For ourselves, and others.

I believe most events we have experienced as a nation for 2020 have already had us questioning, researching, exploring, and asking more. If we are not feeling there is justice, happiness, and freedom for all we can take a look at who is in charge of these systems. There are local, state, and federal elections this coming November. Every single vote matters. Early voting or mail in recommended for comfort and safety.
