by Lama Surya Das. A wise friend of mine recommended this book valuing the Biblical proportions it can give. I purchased my own copy before I even finished reading it. I support the peace, love, and balance it can help you find.
Do we know our own happiness quotient? “If we want ten things and have eight, we are more or less happy and content. If we want twenty things and have eight, then the balance is too far out of whack. When there is this kind of ratio strain, dissatisfaction and frustration may fester within us.” Lama Surya Das then explains “The famous Buddhist philosopher Nagarjuna said that contentment is true wealth” (page 251). Are there any of the “eight worldly winds” that can “blow us off course?” We must be aware of others’ influences and pressure for telling us how we should feel or want. Lama Surya Das shares how considering this awareness helps our “untrained” minds. This can help with the view of “Wisdom of Clear Vision” (page 98).
I have many other pages highlighted, dog-eared, and memorized to help with understanding what helps us feel better inside. When we are able to feel better inside, “balanced,” I believe we can live as fully as we want to live. Please contact me if you have any other questions.
“Too often, people think that solving the world’s problems is based on conquering the earth, rather than touching the earth, touching ground.” ~Chogyam Trungpa
